French Data Centre revenues are forecast to increase sharply over the next 5 years with pricing & new space being the key factors in future growth

Published: Tue 30 October 2012

A new report published by Tariff Consultancy Ltd (TCL) Data Centre Pricing France – 2012 shows that the French Data Centre market – with over 301,700 square metres of raised floor space as of the end of 2012 – is forecast to increase Data Centre revenues by over 80% over the 5 year period to the end of 2017. At the same time average standard retail French rack space pricing will increase from Euro 821 per month (as of the end of 2012) up to Euro 885 per month (as of the end of 2017) an increase of almost 8% over the 5 year period.

The main reason for the increase in French Data Centre development is the steady growth in utilisation levels of new large Carrier Neutral Data Centre facilities such as Telehouse Magny and Global Switch 2 around the Paris area together with the development of new regional Data Centre facilities around cities such as Lyon and Nice – with pricing in the French regions typically being lower than that available in the capital.

The report also finds that there will also be the continued development of Premium Data Centre facilities inFrance– which are Data Centres capable of supporting bundles of 20 kW of power with rack space as standard. Premium Data Centre facilities will account for 40% of total French Data Centre space by the end of 2017. These facilities will help to raise average price levels over time across the French market.

Another feature of the French market is the continued supply of Carrier Based Data Centre stock with telecoms providers such as Orange Business Services continuing to build out their own campus-based facilities – rather than rent 3rd party Data Centre space. And Carrier Based providers such as Neo Telecoms and SFR will also continue to develop with collocation and hosting presence in secondary French cities.

TCL’s Data Centre Pricing France – 2012 report provides a unique survey of some 41 French Data Centre providers with 89 Data Centre facilities as the basis of the report findings. It provides average pricing - by kW of power and by square metre - as well as by standard rack space. The report also includes typical power bundles, cage space and cross connect pricing available in the French market.

Finally, the report provides a 5 year forecast for average pricing, with utilisation and revenue levels for the French Data Centre market from the end of 2012 up to the end of 2017.

The TCL Data Centre Pricing France – 2012 report further indicates that the French Data Centre market is set for a period of sustained growth in revenues with the amount of French Data Centre raised floor space also set to increase from 301,750 square metres (as of the end of 2012) up to 481,000 square metres (as of the end of 2017).

The French report is part of a series of European country Data Centre market pricing reports which are being introduced by TCL during this quarter including - Germany, the Netherlands and the UK.
