Telecomspricing's latest research reveals that despite the outbreak of the Covid-19 corona virus some 24 MNOs have launched 5G services in 12 countries across the Asia Pacific, Europe and North America:
The survey also reveals that overall 5G mobile data allowances are significantly higher than for 4G. Out of all plans covered in this 5G Price Tracker, – around 200 – 25 per cent have unlimited data allowances, 27 per cent with a 100 GB or more data allowance, 14 per cent have a 50 GB or more data allowance – meaning that two-thirds of all 5G plans surveyed have 50 GB or higher data allowances.
However, it should be noted that 5G services are still at an emergent stage, with network coverage, the availability and the purchase cost of handsets acting as barriers to mass market deployment. The deployment of 5G already has been surprisingly widespread when compared with the early stage of 4G LTE.
And 5G is soon poised to enter the mainstream as more MNOs offer lower cost entry-level packages and the availability of lower-cost 5G smartphones starts to improve later in 2020. These two trends have the potential to make 5G the transformative technology of the year.
